Dear YAV Magazine Readers & Supporters:
Thank you for your continued support of YAV Magazine! As testament to being apart of a creative collective of young Africans and as homage to those who have positively impacted my life ; I created the Young African Visionaries Project (YAV Magazine and the documentary film Young African Visionaries) to hopefully be a vessel for continuing dialogue amongst young Africans worldwide and those interested in the growth of Africa today. With humble beginnings, I hoped to bring a publication to the people that would allow for our mission to grow with our audience. I had hoped to encourage young Africans worldwide pursuing their dreams and challenging the notion of how Africa is viewed today to have a voice in the discussion about the continent. I wanted YAV Magazine and the Young African Visionaries Project to help shatter the negative stereotypes portrayed about Africans and help define a new frontier in African media and journalism.
In 2012, I was met with many challenges upon starting YAV Magazine, and with very little support, an old PC computer, and a dream in March of 2012 I was able to complete (which seemed impossible) the first issue of YAV Magazine, officially launching the Young African Visionaries Project underneath my media production company BGNB Productions. Three issues of YAV Magazine were published in 2012, over 300 readers on a monthly basis were connecting with YAV Magazine, and YAV Magazine had a presence on three continents. But with the accomplishments came more challenges. Many of our requests for interviews were never replied to, or cancelled, or late in responding to emails resulting in making us get behind schedule for our production deadlines.
I am sharing all of this information with you; our readers and supporters because I want you to know that I hold with high integrity the mission of the Young African Visionaries Project and YAV Magazine. I look forward to working with you all in contributing to the success of YAV Magazine and sharing your stories. So please look for YAV Magazine to resume production February 2013 with a brand new issue! I will also be announcing our YAV Scholarship winner, production updates on the Young African Visionaries documentary film and much more in the months to come.
Happy New Year!!
